Routine probiotics and NEC in preterm infants

A Dutch multicentre cohort: after a unit adopted a multistrain probiotic, NEC roughly halved (12% to 5%, adjusted RR 0.49), though it is a before-after study and non-NEC mortality rose slightly (Imren et al, JAMA Network Open 2026).
